Legally, an additional 14 percent of the

flov could be retained in Colorado.

The continued acceptability of the quality of vater leaving

Colorado for agricultural and industrial us~s in Nebraska may

become an issue in the future. Limited quantities of additional

vater may be imported from the vestern slope and could add only

another 10 or 15 percent to the existing basin supply. The quan-

tity of water in the South Platte basin is limited and additional

economic expansion viII spur further reuse of the water. Intensive

use of water makes the maintenance of high quality water more

difficult and at the same time, more critical to the economy of the

basin.

Parts of nine streams, listed in table 2, have been designated

as "water quality limited." This means that the water quality

standards cannot be met with secondary sewage treatment and that

treatment beyond secondary levels is necessary.

.

15
