<br />Summarv of San Juan-Chama Water Storace <br />The end-of-month storage status of SJ-C water in all reservoirs, except Heron, and the <br />accumulated sediment deposition adjustments for Abiquiu Reservoir, Cochiti Lake, and <br />Jemez Canyon Reservoir are illustrated in Tables 11 A, 11 B, and' 11 C as well as the <br />reference table (pages 11-13 and 46), <br /> <br />Evaooration Loss on Rio Grande Water Stored Above Otowi <br />The evaporation loss on Rio Grande water stored in EI Vado and Abiquiu Reservoirs is <br />illustrated in Table 12 (page 14). There was no debit water held in EI Vado Reservoir <br />during 1999, as the State of New Mexico entered 1999 with no debit according to the <br />Rio Grande Compact. <br /> <br />SAN LUIS VALLEY PROJECT <br /> <br />Closed Basin Division <br />Working under the guidance of the Closed Basin Division Operating Committee, <br />Reclamation continued Closed Basin salvage operations and water deliveries, Ground <br />water analyses, water accounting, water quality monitoring, project operations, and <br />electrical and mechanical maintenance functions continue to be performed by <br />Reclamation personnel. The Rio Grande Water Conservation District (District) <br />continues to perform civil maintenance on the project: <br /> <br />A total of 25,636 AF of project water was delivered to various points, including <br />20,387 AF creditable to the Rio Grande purs\lant to the Rio Grande Compact, Closed <br />Basin water deliveries in 1 999 included deliveries to the Blanca Wildlife Habitat Area, <br />Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge, San Luis Lake, and the Rio Grande, Table 13 (page <br />15) summarizes 1999 operations of the project, <br /> <br />The project continued flow-through operations at San Luis Lake during 1999 with <br />1,741 AF delivered to the lake through San Luis Lake Feeder Canal. Natural flows into <br />the lake were estimated to be 813 AF as measured at the San Luis Lake Parshall flume <br />and estimated at the spillway and culverts, During the year, 1,698 AF was pumped <br />from the lake. , <br /> <br />On June 7, 1999 the Alamosa County Sheriff requested that the Bureau of <br />Reclamation lower San Luis Lake two feet in elevation to assist in recovering a young <br />drowning victim, Pumping was initiated the same day, The search ended on the night <br />of June 8th when the body of the boy was found, Pumping was decreased on June <br />9th and preparations were made to release the low quality water from the lake to the <br />Blanca Wildlife Habitat Area and the Alamosa Wildlife Refuge in order to restrict non- <br /> <br />vii <br />
