Amend the Federal Power Act in connection <br />with the issuance of licenses. <br />5, Make studies of the relationship of water re- <br />source activities to the national interest. <br />6. Establish a national wilderness preservation <br />system, <br />7. Provide for Federal assistance in connection with <br />non-Federal projects to supply water for munici- <br />pal and industrial purposes, <br />8. Establish criteria for determining the feasibility <br />of proposed reclamation projects. <br />9, Establish a program of weather modification in <br />the Colorado River Basin, <br /> <br />VII. Soil and water research. <br />The Commission is charged with the responsibility <br />to investigate proposals and acquire and disseminate in- <br />formation pertaining to the use of water of interstate <br />streams. In this connection. water-use research plays an <br />important role. ' <br />The Chairman of the Stream Commission has for <br />some veal'S served on the Soil and Water Research Com- <br />mittee of the Natior",1 Reclamation Association, one of <br />the most active groups promoting water research. <br />The Chairman of the Commission also serves as <br />Chairman of the U.s. Department of Agricultnre's Soil <br />and Water Research Committee, <br /> <br />VIII. New projects. <br />The Commiesion has and will maintain an active <br />interest in new projects, such as the recently completed <br />Painted Rock Dam on the Gila River, the Whitlow Ranch <br />Dam presently under construction on Queen Creek and <br />the proposed Buttes Dam, Charleston Dam and Camels <br />Back Dam, The Commi'SlOn participated in hearings to <br />obtain appropriations for the first of these projects, <br /> <br />IX. Indian water uses. <br />The activities of the Colorado River Indian Tribes <br />have made it necessary for the Stream Commission to <br />formulate policies pertaining to Indian uses, The con- <br />clusion of the Colorado River lawsuit will bring into <br />focus this and other Indian problems, especially those <br />relating to Upper Basin uses in northeastern Al'Izona. <br /> <br />X. Sta te boundary. <br />The Chairman of the Stream Conlmission is an ex <br />officio mem be)' of the Arizona-California and Arizona- <br />Nevada Bounda)'y Commissions, by provision of the law <br />setting up those Commissions. Tbis involves meetings with <br />the Boundary Commissions of California and Nevada and <br />the use of engineering and legal staffs for negotiation <br />of compacts and ultimate passage of legislation by the <br />respective States and the Congress. <br />
