,:1

years, the town's present system cannot c~~e with present water demands.
The hydraulic capacity of the system is limited by raw water quantity,
filter pumps, storage, and capacity ~f the distribution system. The
water quality is not in compliance with either the state or the federal
drinking water standards. Demands on the present inadequate system are
certain to increase.
CURIUNT STATUS
On October 15, 1975, the town of Hayden submitted an application
to the Colorado Hater Conservation Board for state assistance in the
construction of improvements to the existing water system. Subsequently,
the board and the town entered into a contract with Plateau Zngineering,
Inc., to prepare a feasibility report for improvements to the present
water system. That report has now been completed and constitutes the
basis for the recommendations contained herein,
PROPOS:m PROJ3CT
Based on the present population of the town and the expected influx
of additional people in the area, the consultants recommended improve-
ments to the present water treatment plant, to the pumping facilities,
to the distribution system and additional storage.
The cost of the project is estimated at $EOO,000. The town of
Hayden has several outstanding bond issues, which amount to $351,000.
In addition, the financial resources of the town of Hayden are quite
limited. Preliminary contacts were made with the Economic Development
Administration of the Department of Commerce (2DA), with the Farmers
Home Administration (FmHA), and with the Four Corners Regional Commissien
for grants up to 50 percent of the project cost. It appears that such
grants can be secured. A construction budget is proposed as follows:

-2-

0309
