->
#1

.

.

dam to determine if it was more economical to utilize one
dam instead of the resulting Morrow Point-Blue Mesa combination.
This estimate is expected within the next 60 days. A contract
has been awarded to Alster and Associates for photogrammetric
mapping of the Crystal and l1orrow point dam sites and for the
access road to Morrow Point dam site. Advertisement for
bids for use of backhoe to explore and sample the potential
concrete aggregate source on Cimarron Creek will be given
soon. A report to meet requirements of Public Law 485 as
reported at your last meeting will be available this fiseal year.
Colorado Storaqe Project--Participating projects
Paonia Pro~.--Definite plan studies of the Paonia project
are going forward. Refined studies are now proceeding on
operational problems involving sediment encroachment on the
capacity in the reservoir and to evaluate other factors
effecting the size of the reservoir so that the Chief Engineer
may prepare final designs and specifications. Invitations
to bid are being prepared to drill about 11 more holes at the
dam site to give the Chief Engineer data needed for these
designs. Land classification and drainage aspects of the
project have been thoroughly reviewed by the technicians and
the small amount of work remaining to be done for the
Secretarial land certification has been started. Topographic
surveys for the road relocation around Paonia reservoir and
geologic studies of seepage sections along the Fire Mountain
canal are underway. Construction on the dam is scheduled to
start next summer.

1260 3
