Major fea-
tures of this program include the middle feeder system in Los
Angeles County, portions of the lower feeder system in Riverside
and Orange counties, the second pipe line of the San Diego aque-
duct in Riverside and San Diego counties. and' the addition of two
pumping units in each of the five main aqueduct pumping plants,
together with c0l1struction of a pump delivery pipe line at each
plant for connecting the new pumps to the main aqueduct tunnels
and siphons.
Important additions to the constituent areas of the District
during the fiscal year inciude Eastern Municipal Water District in
Riverside County, Chino Basin Municipal Water District in San
Bernardino County, and Orange County Municipal Water District,
with an aggregate area of 490 &quare miles. A number of other
annexations were pending 01' in pl'Ospect at the end of the fiscal
yeal".

[",tSOJlJ/f;1

- -------- ---
'TheJarge construction program necessitated increasing the num-
ber of engineering personnel. Employed during the fiscal year were
16 additional engineers, engineering aids, and draftsmen, and at the
end of the period the engineering personnel assigned principally to
design, preparation of plans and 5peeilications, acquisition of right
of way, administration of construction, and related activities in con-
nection with the extension of the aqueduct s>'stem included a total
of 33 employees. The engineering force wi\1 be expanded fm.ther
during the succeeding fiscal year in order to accelerate the pl'Ogram.
Enlargement of the main aqueduct pumping system is being planned
under the supervision of the enginee,' of pumping plant extensions.
All engineering design and related work on the aqueduct system
expansion is under the general direction of the assistant chief
engineer.

r .\31
