-:;"7'0.
- ~';

-r; .;

October 15, 1982

Memorandum

To: Files

Subject: Response to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, September 14, 1982,
Letter on Draft Environmental Assessment for Dolores Project
Road Upgrading

L Comment:

Our comments of December 1979 and September 1981 stipulate that adverse
impacts to big game sh~uld not occur provided that the roads remain closed
during the winter and that the Forest Service prohibited snowmobiling in
the area. We also suggest that your agency be prepared to find required
mitigative measures should road kills become significant in the future.
None of these concerns are incorporated in the draft as conditions to the
proposed road upgrading.

We therefore recommend that the draft assessment be re-written to include
the stipulation we provided as conditions to road construction and
rec.reation.

Response:

The text has been revised, see page 4; the statement now incorporates your
suggestions concerning big game into the proposed road upgrading plan.
