The <br />existing Coachella Canal has a maximum capacity of ,0,500 acre-feet, whereas <br />the lined canal will be designed for a capacity of 1,500 acre-feet. There- <br />fore, water will not be available for these lands. It is presently contem~ <br />plated that approximately 3,800 to 4,200 acres will be acquired, of ~ihich <br />400 acres are developed. The United States will not acquire any water <br />rights by reason of this land acquisition. Upon acquisition, these lands <br />will revert to public domain. <br /> <br />This has been a very brief description of a very complex project. A <br />more detailed description is included in the draft environmental impact <br />statements and in Public Law 93-320. <br /> <br />A limited supply of the draft environmental statements and copies of <br />Title I of the Act are available at the rear of the auditorium.
