<br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />002526 <br /> <br />Carrying this summary report further would go beyond the presentation <br />made to the Coordinated Planning Subcommittee of the Pacific Southwest <br />Inter-Agency Committee, but a final paragraph for perspective seems <br />apropos: <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />"The hallmark of California is its continuous rapid population <br />growth. Since the end of the Civil War, California, has had <br />an unbroken record of continuous population growth, the <br />State's population doubling once every 20 years. The real <br />meaning of this phenomenon is just commencing to be felt <br />in its most pronounced impact on the State. .. . Between <br />1950 and 1960 the State's population grew by more than five <br />million. If the 20-year doubling period that has character- <br />ized the last 100 years continues to be valid, the population <br />of the State will reach 30 million by 1980. In a comprehen- <br />sive study made by the State, the actual forecast for 1980 <br />was approximately 28 million.
