.

001580

.

.

J

with the present and future economic and social welfare of
the State's people. Its purpose is two-fold: (1) to provide
the general public with basic information for understanding
Arizona's water problems; and (2) to provide a s~~ary of
the available technical data that are useful in water
development programs.

Effective September 15th Mr. W. S. Gookin, who
has for many years represented the State of Arizona on the
Pacific Southwest Inter-Agency Committee, resigned as State
Irlater Engineer. He was re-employed as a consultant to the
Arizona Interstate Stream Commission and will continue to
represent the State of Arizona as member of the Pacific
Southwest Inter-Agency Committee until further notice.

Throughout the period Arizona continued active
participation in the program of the Comprehensive River
Basin Planning Sub-committee and related groups.

Within the past few days Arizona has received
copies of the Summary Heport of the National Assessment. A
cursory review of that report indicates that the report
contains projections with respect to land capability units
and related climatic factors which are prejudiced against
the more arid portions of the Reclamation west. Arizona
proposes to protest this discrimination.

~

-3-

i:
"'~ '~:~/ .>;;; 'j!,d:J;
