00158i

.

.

,

PACIFIC SOUTHWEST INTER-AGENCY COMMITTEE
Quarterly Report for Colorado

{/

67-1 Meeting

construs.tion

Morrow Point Dam construction has been suspended for the
winter ui.t:h the exception of work on the underground powerp1ant,
excavation of the stilling basin area and placement of steel pen-
stocks in the tunnels leading to the powerplant. Seventy-eight
percent of the work under the contract has been completed.

The completion contractor at Blue Mesa Dam is concentrating
on installation of the turbines and generators and plans to have
the plant operable early in 1967. Generation equipment is now being
installed, and the switchyard is essentially complete. OVerall
completion of the contract is about 67 percent.

On the silt Project the contractor has completed about 93
percent of the work on Rifle Gap Dam and highway relocation. Place-
ment of riprap on the upstream face of the dam is essentially com-
pleted, but a substantial amount of rockfill remains to be placed on
the downstream face. In mid-November, following the final concrete
placement in the spillway, closure of the outlet works was accomp-
lished. During the remainder of November and December water was
pumped over the dam to meet downstream water requirements. On
January 1 pumping was discontinued and releases were made through
the 6-inch gate chamber bypass line. The contractor is expected to
concentrate on resloping the relocated highway cuts and repairing
sections of roadway damaged by slides.

Construction work has been finished for Silt Pump Canal,
Dry Elk Valley Lateral, and the Grass valley Canal Rehabilitation.
In addition, all contract work on Davie Ditch was accepted as sub-
stantially complete on December 8. A minor amount of cleanup work
will be deferred until spring. All concrete work has been finished
and pumping equipment installed in the Silt Pumping Plant. The
contract was accepted as substantially complete on December 21, with
final testing being deferred until spring.

bdvance Planning

Feasibility studies have been completed for the Battle-
ment Mesa project. A meeting was held early in December with the

-iL
