oc

the main channel adjacent to Old Charlie will be included in the
definition of 'success".

VIII. Task Description and Schedule

The following types of data will be collected weekly during spring
runoff, when Old Charlie is connected to the main channel of the
river:

2/22/96

Fish species composition, relative abundance, and size.
a. Gear types used will include fyke nets, regular and
modified minnow traps (baited and unbaited), large and
small aperature light traps, and trammel nets (no
electroshocking will be done).
b. Sampling strategies will be stratified by depth, cover
type, and season.
All fish captured will be returned into Old Charlie, to reduce
bias due to harvest depletion.

2. Water chemistry (dissolved oxygen, conductivity, pH, turbidity,
alkalinity).

1.

2/22/96
2/22/96

3. Water temperature.

4. Productivity (plankton and benthos).

5. Aquatic vegetation.

6. Depth and volume (based on water surface elevations).

7. Presence of other potential predators (e.g., birds, mammals)
will be noted.

Contaminants levels will not be monitored; available data suggest
that there are no contaminants problems at Old Charlie Wash. The
exchange rate of water (i.e., flow through) will be zero during
1996; the site will fill during runoff, hold water, and then be
drained after runoff.

Following is the expected sequence of events during FY 96:

2/22/96 Replace inlet structure at Old Charlie (March 1996)

1. Allow Old Charlie to fill (May-June 1996).

2. Determine if site structures are controlling access by fishes
(May-July 1996).

2/22/96 3.

Determine relative vulnerability of fishes to gear types and
sampling strategies.

4
