As discussed previously, <br />these mesa soils are not as critical to the salt loading <br />problem as are the adobe soils east of the river. <br />D. ImDacts Qll Recreational Resources <br />If all five proposed projects along the South Canal are <br />licensed and constructed, as a part of the projects, the <br />applicant proposes to upgrade the existing road adjacent to <br />the canal to improve vehicle access and recreational use. <br />Although final plans have not yet been developed, the appli- <br />cant proposes to improve the existing road by grading and <br />gravel surfacing as required, while retaining tbe same <br />general alignment. A hiker/biker trail could be included <br />adjacent to the road. Parking areas or overlooks could be <br />included at each hydroelectric site and at locations with an <br />extraordinary view of the surrounding landscape. Although <br />access to the powerhouses will be restricted fQr safety and <br /> <br />security reasons, arrangements could be made for scheduled <br /> <br />tours, and display boards illustrating the projects could be <br />erected at the sites. <br /> <br />The project boundary (Exhibit G) for Project No. 5 on the <br />Soutt Canal includes the entire road adjacent to canal for <br />the proposed recreational features.
