I
I
I
I
I
I

001008

I

The Uncompahgre River provides poor fishery habitat because
of nigh sediment loads, mineral pollution from the headwater
area, high summer temperatures, and low summer flows. Fish
species identified include dace, sculpin, flannelmouth,
white and bluehead suckers, and rainbow and brown trout.

Few young trout are found in the river indicating little

natural reproduction. Stocking accounts for most of the

trout identified. The lower reaches of the Uncompahgre
River tributaries in the study area provide poor fishery
habitat because of low late-season flows and irrigation
diversions which severely reduce the streamflow during late
1
summer.

I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

I. Threatened ADQ Endan~ered Soecies
The Fish and Wildlife Service has identified endangered
wildlife, fish, and plant species that are or may be present
in the study area. The Colorado Division of Wildlife has
identified three threatened or endangered species that are
1
or may be present in the study area.

Wildlife:

According to the Fish and Wildlife Service, four endangered

terrestrial species may be present in the area - the bald

eagle, American peregrine falcon, whooping crane, and black-
1
footed ferret.

E-22
