<br />I <br /> <br />O"o~ ~ ~'l' <br />..v':"'v <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Gambel's quail are Cound in shrub areas in the vicinity of <br /> <br />agricultural lands. <br /> <br />Chukar primarily inhabit the northern <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />part of the area where <br />1 <br />terrain. <br /> <br />irrigated areas border broken <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Waterfowl nest along the rivers, small reservoirs, and irri- <br /> <br />gation canals, <br /> <br />but the area is not considered significant <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />for production. <br /> <br />Waterfowl ~hich commonly nest in the area <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />include mallards, <br /> <br />8reen-winged, <br /> <br />blue-winged, <br /> <br />and cinnamon <br /> <br />teal, and limited numbers of Canada geese. Migrants include <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />g2d\lall, <br /> <br />pintail, <br /> <br />widgeon, shoveler, redhead, ring-necked, <br /> <br />canvas <br /> <br />back, <br /> <br />lesser scaup, <br /> <br />common goldeneye, <br /> <br />and other <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />ducks. <br /> <br />Mallards, Can2da geese, widgeon, green-winged teal, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />gadwall, <br /> <br />common goldeneye, <br /> <br />and common mergansers winter in <br /> <br />the area. <br /> <br />Agricultural fields are important feeding areas <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />for the more common wintering ducks and geese while rivers, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />small ponds, and drainage ditches are also used by wintering <br />1 <br /> <br />waterfowl. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Striped skunk and muskrat are the most common furbearers in <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />the study area. <br /> <br />Others include beaver, gray fox, ring-tail, <br /> <br />river otter, and spotted skunk. <br /> <br />Most furbearers are associ- <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />ated with the Uncom~ahgre and Gunnison River systems, <br /> <br />small <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />E-19 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />
