Aspinall
Project), and is then diverted from the ~unn1son Tunnel and
into the South Canal. The South Canal extends southwesterly
for approximately 11 miles from the end of the tunnel to the
Uncompahgre River, has a capacity of approximately 1000 cfs,
is partially concrete-lined, and includes five short tunnels
along its length. From the terminal drop of the South Canal
at the Uncompahgre River, a flume conveys water across the

river to the West Canal. The West Canal has an initial
1
capacity of 175 cfs and is approximately 21 miles long.

Approximately 2 miles downstream along the Uncompahgre
River, the Montrose and Delta Canal begins and flows
generally northwesterly. At a point six miles west of
Montrose, the Montrose and Delta Canal flows over Shavano
Falls (Uncompahgre Valley Hydroelectric Project No.6) into
the Shavano Valley. At this point, the West Canal is also
encountered again as it flows northward into Coal Creek.

E-12
