Geolo2v <br />The Uncompahgre Valley, in which the six proposed hydroelec- <br />tric projects are located, is an agricultural area, with <br />irrigated lands situated along the lower reaches of the <br />Uncompahgre River between the Uncompahgre Plateau, to the <br />southwest and the Black Canyon up-lift on the northeast. <br />The Gunnison River, a principal tributary of the Colorado <br />River, is joined by the Uncompahgre River at Delta and forms <br /> <br />the northern boundary of the area irrigated by the <br />1 <br />Uncompahgre Project. <br /> <br />The Uncompahgre Valley was carved by the Uncompahgre River <br />as it extends in a northerly direction from its head in the <br />San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado to its confluence <br /> <br />E-~ <br />
