GENERAL <br /> <br /> <br />Exhibit A contains a narrative description of the proposed <br /> <br /> <br />facility, operating plan, and other various aspects of the <br /> <br /> <br />project. A tabulation of project data is also contained on <br /> <br /> <br />Table A-4, at the end of Exhibit A. <br /> <br />II. EXISTING FACILITIES <br /> <br /> <br />A. General <br /> <br /> <br />The proposed hydropower project will be constructed on the <br /> <br /> <br />South Canal of the Uncompahgre Valley Irrigation Project. <br /> <br /> <br />The Uncompahgre Project is one of the oldest Federal <br /> <br /> <br />reclamation projects, having been authorized for <br /> <br /> <br />construction in 1903. The original project features, <br /> <br /> <br />constructed mostly prior to 1915, included the 6-mile long <br /> <br /> <br />Gunnison Tunnel, seven major diversion dams, and 565 miles <br /> <br /> <br />of canals and laterals. Later additions included the <br /> <br /> <br />106,200 acre-foot Taylor Park Reservoir built during the <br />1935-37 period and 215 miles of land drains constructed from <br />1936 to 1942. <br /> <br />The South Canal portion of the project was completed in 1911 <br /> <br /> <br />and serves to carry irrigation flows from the West Portal of <br /> <br />A-1 <br />
