Endangered species include the Colorado squawfish and <br />razorback sucker. It is anticipated that actions taken by the Recovery <br />Program also will provide benefits to other native fishes in the San Juan <br />basin and keep them from becoming endangered in the future. <br /> <br />The specific goals of the Recovery Program are: <br /> <br />1. To restore protected populations of razorback sucker and Colorado <br />squawfish in the San Juan River basin consistent with the recovery goals <br />for these species established under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. <br /> <br />2. To allow water development to proceed in the San Juan basin in <br />compliance with Federal and State law. interstate compacts. Supreme <br />Court decrees. and Federal trust responsibilities to the Southern Ute <br />Indian Tribe, Ute Mountain Ute Indian Tribe, Jicarilla Apache Tribe. and <br />the Navajo Nation. <br /> <br />The San Juan Basin Recovery Implementation Program is a cooperative effort of <br />the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Fish and wildlife Service. the States of <br />Colorado.
