The Biology Committee will be responsible for reviewing priority research
and recovery activities. work accomplishments. and assessing progress toward
recovery. One biologist from each of the represented agencies/groups will
serve on this committee.

The Biology Committee will select a chairman to facilitate meetings and to
respond to management concerns and Questions developed by the Oversight
Committee. Since the main focus of the group is to assess biological needs of
the fish and potential recovery actions. participants in this group should
have experience in native fish biology and management.

4,3 SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY

The Fish and Wildlife Service will be responsible for directing and
coordinating the overall recovery effort for endangered fishes in the San Juan
Basin. These responsibilities include:

1. Preparing draft work plans for research and recovery activities in
coordination with other program participants.

2, Developing and updating long range plans.

3. Evaluating program/project accomplishments and shortcomings,

4, Developing specific recovery goals for the San Juan River.

The Service will be responsible for coordinating activities with the Upper
Basin Recovery Implementation Program and the Colorado River Fishes Recovery
Team.

To accomplish these responsibilities the Service will appoint a Program
Coordinator for the San Juan Recovery Implementation Program. The Program
Coordinator will serve as staff to the Oversight Committee and be responsible
for overall program coordination and dissemination of information about
program activities. In addition. the Service will appoint a senior level
