on067t::

SCIENTIFIC OBJECTIVE
1. Tasks - (a) Cumulus - Measure and analyze 1,000 to
1,500 cumulus clouds singly or in groups,
including unseeded and ice-phase or hygro-
scopic seeded and possibly other affected
clouds, and detail the important physical
and dynamic processes and precipitation
mechanisms. Incorporate findings into
improved models and verify models on an
independent data set. Define the measurable
parameters describing favorable conditions
or "windows" for cloud seeding. Develop a
thorough precipitation modification potential
estimate and climatological probabilities.
Perform analyses on the sources, probabilities,
degree, and relative importance of remaining
uncertainties. Formulate modeling concepts
and techniques for optimum precipitation
management of all cumulus clouds.

(b) Upslope, Winter, Frontal, and Cyclonic -
Depending on resources, measure, infrequently
treat, and analyze some 20 to 50 weather
systems of each type and develop preliminary
modification hypotheses and potential aug-
mentation estimates for these situations.
7
