menced during the fiscal year.
Preliminary plans were made for a turnout from the upper feeder
near the west portal of San Rafael No, 1 tunnel, including a gate
towel' and connecting tunnel, with a capacity for delivery of flows
up to 300 cubic feet per second to the water sy,tem of the City
of Los Angeles,
At the request of Coastal Municipal Water District, preliminary
plans were prepared for a connection from the Orange County
feeder to the Orange County Airport and adjoining Irvine Sub-
division lands annexed to the Coastal District in November 1948.
The pressure regulating structure on the Palos Verdes feeder
at the Los Angeles River crossing originally was outfitted with
three of the five assemulies required for full capacity, and the
structure at the Compton Creek crossing with two of the four
assemblies required, To provide for the increased demand on the
feeder. specifications were issued for procurement of the necessary
valves and related equipment to complete the pressure regulating
facilities at the,e locations, '
In the distribution system headworks at Lake Mathews, provi-
sions are made for installation of a total of 10 discharge valve
assemblies for delivering an ultimate peak flow of 2.000 cubic feet
per second into the forebay. Two of the valve assemblies were
installed in the initial development. To provide for the increasing
water demand, specifications were issued for three additional valve
assemblies.
Pursuant to an agreement with the City of Compton providing
for the sale to the city of the easterly 6,791 feet of the Compton
lateral in Rosecrans Ave" plans were prepared for moving the
venturi meter and structure to a point 200 feet east of Avalon
Boulevard, near the tUl'llout from the Palos Verdes feeder, The
work was done by District forces.
Designs were prepared for improved pumping facilities at Lake
Mathews for the domestic water system; also for motorizing the
radial gate at the Puddingstone spillway on the upper feeder near
San Dimas,
