This extension was <br />completed in February 1944. In September 1946 the City of Brea <br />and the unincorporated area of Fairview Farms in Orange County <br />became a part of the Metropolitan Water District by annexation <br />to the Coa~tal District. To serve Brea its water system was con- <br />nected to the Orange County feeder b)' means of a 10-inch pipe <br />line 700 feet long constructed by District forces in May 1947. Con- <br />struction of the San Diego aqueduct from the west portal of San <br />Jacinto tunnel to San Vicente reservoir of the San Diego city water <br />system was completed in November 1947, The lateral 6.84 miles <br />in length to supply West Basin Municipal Water District from the <br />Palos Verdes feeder has been under construction by contract during <br />the year and was two-thirds completed on June :30, 1949. Work <br />was just getting under way as the fiscal year ended on the mile- <br />/ long San Marino lateral from the upper feeder in Pasadena, and a <br />construction contract had been awarded for the 2,8-mile Victoria <br />Street lateral from the Palos Verdes feeder to furnish additional <br />service to Compton and Long Beach. <br />A map of the distribution system showing the location of the <br />reservoirs, pipe lines., Roftening plant, and constituent areas form- <br />ing the Metropolitan Water District is displayed on pages 26 and <br />27. A map of the constituent areas of the San Diego County Water <br />Authority and the San Diego aqueduct is shown on page 35. <br />The original cost of the water distribution system, the cost of <br />additions and betterments, and the net cost after credits as of June <br />30,1949 are shown in table 5, <br />The estimated cost of the northerly half of the San Diego aque- <br />duct is also shown. This amount is to be paid in installments with- <br />out interest over a period of 30 years, <br /> <br />Stomge in fAlke Mathews <br /> <br />On June 30, 1948 available storage in Lake Mathews was 100,121 <br />acre-feet, The lowest storage during the year was 88,454 acre-feet <br />on September 3, 1948 and the highest 100,260 acre-feet on March <br />27 and 28 and April 7 and 8, 1949. On June 30, 1949 available <br />storage was 99,488 acre-feet, Since the minimum main aqueduct <br />delivery is a one-pump flow of about 200 cubic feet per second, <br />and the flow required to be diverted to San Jacinto regulating <br />reservoir was practically constant at an average of about 100 cubic <br />feet per second, an almost continuous delivery to Lake Mathews <br />resulted. For most of the year this delivery approximated one <br />
