Natural Gas Faciiities and Rates
Peoples Natural Gas and Greeley Natural Gas are possible suppliers of
natural gas on the reservations.

Peoples Natural Gas (PNG) supplies the Durango area wi th natural gas

(3). It sells gas purchased- wholesale and gas produced in well

fields in T33N, R12W and T32N, RllW. If an irrigation pump were

located near the well field, the gas could be purchased directly from

the well field at an approximate cost of 35 cents per 100 cubic feet.

The cost for gas purchased wholesale is about 55 cents per cubic feet.

Greeley Gas Company serves the Cortez area (4). They do not have a

well field in the area so purchase wholesale natural gas for retail

sale. The approximate cost of their gas is 52 cents per 100 cubic

feet. Staff at PNG thought natural gas would be an economic fuel

source if the demand were near the well field.

The Ute Mountain Reservation does not have producing well fields

although exploration has occurred in the past. Personnel at Peoples

Natural Gas are not aware of current exploration activity in the area

(3). Current exploration is apparently near existing well fields.

2.4 Future Power Capacity

The power distribution facilities serving the La Plata and Empire

Electric associations from the Colorado Ute Electric Association

have met requested power requirements in the past (1, 2).
