S. Water Resources Council.

The study on subdivision and coastal flood hazard area regulation,

which will become volume II of a six-part report entitled "Regulation of

Flood Hazard Areas to Reduce Flood Losses", has been released in draft

form for public comment.

In announcing the publication of the draft volume, the Director of the
Council, W. Don Maughan said, "Greater use of State and local government
regulations is a promising means of reducing our flood losses which con-
tinue to increase at an alarming rate".

This review draft is a followup study based on an earlier volume I,
which is at the Government Printer and is expected to be available in the
near future. Like the earlier volume, which deals primarily with riverine
flooding, this review draft contains draft statutes and ordinances which
might be adopted with appropriate changes by State and local government
bodies. It also contains a commentary on the statutes and ordinances, and
it discusses some general problems and legal considerations involved in
such regulat ions.

The report, published by the Council, was undertaken as a cooperative
effort by the Departments of Agriculture; Army; Housing and Urban Develop-
ment; Interior; the Tennessee Valley Authority; the Council; and the Univer-
sity of Wisconsin.

Comments received by the Council by November 15, 1971 will be
considered before the final report is released. Copies of the report can be
obtained by contacting the Executive Secretary, U. S. Water Resources
Council, 2120 L Street, N. W., Washington, D. C. 20037.

._-~v~
';':.: ~ ....
~-;'~-/~~'

':~/:.~
;.";,-.!.-
"/-:

<--,-)";-.

~;1:;~i~;):~:;:~~~~:;~:f~~t~';f;;~'1~t;r~c';i'U;:;fl~'~,;~:~.,tf;;;;~~~;~;,~~i~;~;';{(:;;\~~~';;W;~~~ffit;);~~f'~~g1:;~t~'[~:B';{7ii;~1~~~!:'1{~'fi~i;i~~
