<br />OOLonADO RIVER STORAGE PROJECT <br /> <br />7 <br /> <br />Hammond project <br />The Hammond project in northwestern New Mexico will divert <br />San Juan River water for ilTigation of about 4,000 acres of full-service <br />land aloug the river, in the vicinity of Farmingtou and Bloonllleld. <br />Principal features onhe development will be 0. diversion dam, diBtri- <br />bntion canal, Pnmpipg plant, and lateral and drainttge systems. <br /> <br />Gentral, Utah, project (initial, phase) <br />The central Utah project (initial phase) will be an extensive under- <br />taking to develop water resources of the Uinta Basin, 0. Begmen t of the <br />Colorado River BaB,n in northeastern Utah. Part of the dcveloped <br />water will be conveyed westward for use in the Bonneville BaBin in <br />central Utah and the remainder will be used in the Uinta Basin. <br />Res~~vojrB with a total capacity of about 1,663,,000 acre-feet will <br />make"water available for about 28,600 acres of full-service land llJld <br />about 131,800 acrcs of supplemental-service land, Foul' project <br />powerplants will hl!-ve a combiued installed capacity of 61,000 kilo- <br />watts. Approximately 48,800 acre-feet of water will be provided <br />annually for municipal, industrial and miscellaneous uses. The <br />Project will provide recreational benefits and will have vnlue in flood <br />and Bediment contml.' , <br />The potential Strawberry aqueduct will intercept flows of Rock <br />Creek and streams;west of Rock Creek, It will convey the water to <br />tbe existing Strawberry Reservoir on Strawberry River which will bs <br />enlarged tllJ.'ough 'donstruction of Soldier Creek Dam downstream <br />from the present dam. The existing outlet tunnel from the rl',servoir <br />will be enlarged. ,TbiB tunnel con veys water west,ward t,hrongh t,be <br />Wasatch Mountain dividc to the Bonnevill~, Basin, In descending <br />tbe west slope of the Wasatch Mountains, tbe water will pass throulfh <br />a BerieB of four powerplan ts. Part of the use will be effected by exchangeB involviug the <br />waters of Utah Llake, Provo River, and other strea1l1s. Theae ex- <br />ch~nges will require conBt.ruetion of Bates Dam on Provo River, <br />Hobble Creek Dam on Little Hobble Creek, and the Front Dam near <br />Snlt Lake City" Transmission lines will he constructed to serve <br />local market arebs and to interconnect with the main grid trans- <br />mission system. . <br />New project works to provide witteI' for replneement and expanded <br />irrigation and mjmicipal use in the Uinta Basin will include Hanna <br />Reservoir on t,he north fork of the Duchesne River, Starvation <br />Reservoir on Strliwberrv River with a feeder canal from the DueheBne <br />River,: the Upalco Reservoir off-stream from Lake Fork River, the <br />Stanaker Reseryoir with feeder canal from Ashley Creek, and a <br />service el1nal (Vernal unit), and Tyzack Reservoir on Brush Creek. <br /> <br />Emery County pt,oject <br />The Emery Oounty project will be in the headwaters of the San <br />Rafael River in, east-eentral Utah. It will provide irrigation water <br />for about 3,GOO :acres of full-service land and 20,500 Itcres of Bupple- <br />mentl1l-service 1l1nd and will provide for re,creat,ional opportunitieB. <br />J?es Valley Re/lervoir with a total ~apacity of 57,090.aere-feet, It <br />diversion dam, ~anal, laterals, and draUls will be the prmclpal features <br />of the project. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1 <br />
