17423 MWR CFA UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MIIWFST REGION 1709 JacKson Street Omaha, Nebraska 68102 IN REPLY REFER TO: MAR 2 0 1969 Memorandum To: Regional Director, Bureau of Reclamation, Region 7, Building 20, Denver Federal Center, Denver, Oolorado 80225 From: Assistant to the Regional Director, Cooperative Activities and Public Affairs SUbject: Re-evaluation estimated Recreation Development Oosts and estimated Annual Monetary Benefits, Narrows Reservoir, South Platte Division, Missouri River Basin Project, Colorado This re-evaluation of the recreational aspects of studied Narrows Reservoir as applicable to estimated costs and monetary benefits under the requirements of P.1. 89-72 is submitted in the interests of updating the Recreation Reconnaissance Report completed by the National Park Service in the spring of 1966. It was requested by Region 7, Bureau of Reolamation, with concurrenoe by the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation in a March 7, 1969 memorandum from the Regional Director, Mid-Oontinent Region, to this office. The updating of the estimated recreation development costs and mone- tary benefits attributed to the reoreation development is required at this time due to the increase in construction and recreation oosts, the increase in population within the reservoir's zone of reoreation influence, and the increase in vehicular traffic. Regarding the latter two factors, the estimated visitor use of recreation facilities in the 1966 report was based upon the 1960 census data. Acoording to the JanUary 1968 population figures released by the Oolorado Division 0:1.' Accounts and Oontrols 0:1.' the State Budget Oftice, there were 976,026 persons living within a 6o-mile radius 0:1.' the proposed reservoir and the adjacent oities of Denver, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Loveland. This population represents an increase 0:1.' slight~ over eight percent since 1960 within the:l.'oregoing described zone 0:1.' recreation influence.
