It will also provide l:enefits for fish and wild-
life, recreation, and flood control.

PLAN

The J):)lores River vlill J::e regulated by Ycphee Reservoir, forrred at the north-
eastern edge of the project area. YDnurnent Creek Reservoir, located in an
intermittent stream channel in the Dove Creek area will store rmmicipal and
industrial water for the town of Dove Creek and hest J):)lores Cbunty. Dawson
Draw Reservoir will J::e constructed 11 miles northwest of Cbrtez specifically
as a wildlife IT\3Jlagement area.

As a IT\3jor project conveyance, the J):)ve Creek Canal will receive water from
I-'(;Phee Reservoir Urrough the Great Cut Pumping plant and will extend aJxJUt 40,.
miles north~st to }'omlITent Creek Reservoir., other i=igation facilities will"'"
include the South Canal, a branch of the J):)ve Creek Canal; the new J):)lores Tunnel,
extending from the new !:blares Tunnel through M:mtezuma, Valley to the 'Ibwa=
area.

The project will provide a supplemental i=igation supply for the M::mtezuma
Valley area, and the historic annual late surrrrer. and fall irrigation shortages
of al::.out 13 percent wiil l:e alrrost .' entirely el~ated, and crop yields will'
J::e substantially increased. The
lateral systems will provide sprinkler pressure at each farm turnout. Pumping
plants will provide this pressure where the ground slope is insufficient to
pressurize the pipeline.' Project drainage will also l:e furnished, where re-.._
quired, on full service project land.

The proposed poV..€rplants at pcPhee Dam and on the 'Ibwaoc Canal w:>uld generate
990 kilowatts and 10.5 rregawatts, respectively. A 13.8 kV transmission line 4.5
miles long v.Duldeonnect M:::Phee Dam PoV..€rplant to the existing system and a 3.25
mile 115 kV transmis'sion line \>.Quld l:e necessary at the 'Ibwaoc Canal PoV..€rplant.

The Dolores Project will provide adequate water supplies for the benefit of the
carrnunities that do not have enough water to rreet the peak derrands of swrrner and
the needs of increased population growth. I-'Dnurnent Creek and M:::Phee Reservoirs
will annually supply 600 acre-feet for the commmity of J):)ve Creek, 6,200 acre-
feet for Cbrtez, 1,000 acre-feet for 'Ibwaoc, and 900 acre-feet for the Dolores
Water Cbnservancy District.

The project will result in a number of recreational l:enefits for area residents
and for visitors to sou~stern Cblorado.
