Alternatives

PrelfNfnary fndfCa0 are that:
- Trimble Point would require the shortest penstocki
Campbell the longest. Dunhall Point and Hoppe' Point penstock
1 engths are about the sue.
- The shorter penstock costs for Trf_ble Point would be
offset by the larger embankment costs. The embanlalent costs
for the other three sites are approximately the SIIlIe.
Access for operation and m.intenance of the powerplant in a"
four cases is under study. One option is the construction of
a new DIM road (to be used by goverment personnel only).
approxfllltely 1 and 1/2 mfles long from McPhee DIlIl. tying into
the Dry Canyon Road. Some improvements of existing roads
would be required for all four sites. We are looking at less
conventiona' routes of access. such as an aerial tramway.
In order to select a reconnended plan 1n March of 1982. the
Planning Team will be evaluating these sites in relation to
cost-effectiveness. wildlife, fishery resource and recreation-
al considerations. as they affect McPhee Reservoir. Studies
are ongoing to gather the necessa~ infonnatfon to make these
decisions.

,

A$l;~,
\,.1' i.i_~
. ,'-,f-.;
Four alternate forebay sites have been identified for further
investigation by the Planning Team. They are Hoppe Point.
Dunha. Point. TriMble Point and Campbell. as shown on the map
below. Sites other than the higher mesas on the north s1.de of
McPhee Dan! require larger volwnes of water to be pumped to
achieve the ~ generating capacity as the north Mesa sftes;
therefore. the forebay alernatfves were limited to north and
northeast of McPhee DaM.

Dne of the decisions to be made by the Planning Team will be
to identify the appropriate size of tl1e unit. The likely size
would be from 500 to 1.000 megawatts (MW). The following
table WlS based on a 1,000 MW sfze.
