<br />For the Price-San Rafael Riv~rs Unit, Reclamation and <br /> <br />SCS are looking at new combined alternatives that would <br /> <br />l\J <br />c..n <br />.+:- <br />I-" <br /> <br />include placement of laterals in pipe and a combination of' <br />laterals with a gravity sprinkler irrigation system. <br /> <br />In addition to construction of three units and planning <br /> <br />activities on 12 units, Reclamation is carrying out research <br /> <br />programs utilizing expertise in the Engineering and Research <br /> <br />Center on such activities as solar, salt-gradient ponds, ion <br /> <br />exchange softening, and use of saline water in aquaculture. <br /> <br />Bureau of Land Management <br /> <br />Public Law 98-569 directed the secretary of the Interior <br /> <br />to develop a comprehensive program for minimizing salt con- <br /> <br />tributions from lands administered by the Bureau of Land <br />Management and provide a report on this program to Congress <br />and the Colorado River Basin salinity Control Advisory <br /> <br />Council by July 1, 1987. A draft of a report discussing the <br />Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) salinity control program is <br />scheduled for completion in December. The report outlines <br />BLM's implementation actions concerning salinity control and <br /> <br />quantifies, classifies, and maps the saline soils on lands <br /> <br />administered by BLM. <br /> <br />It also provides a summary of the <br /> <br />status of land use planning in the Colorado River Basin and <br /> <br />discusses salinity management techniques. <br /> <br />In 1986, the BLM's salinity control efforts were <br />concentrated on the development of a comprehensive salinity <br />control program for all public lands administered by the BLM <br /> <br />-14- <br />
