Combined, these accomplishments represent about 27

percent of the total onfarm Grand valley project goal.
Off-farm lateral improvements for 1986 consisted of

16,325 feet of pipeline improvements. Total off-farm lateral
accomplishments for the project are 39.5 miles of pipelines
and 11.1 miles of ditch lining, representing 25.1 percent of
the overall off-farm project goal.

Total onfarm seepage and deep percolation reductions in

1986 are 4,318 acre-feet with an estimated 21,293 tons salt

load reduction.

The off-farm improvements in 1986 resulted

in a reduction in deep percolation of 3,126 acre-feet and a

salt load reduction of 11,800 tons. The total USDA program to
date has reduced the annual seepage and deep percolation by
7,444 acre-feet and reduced the salt load by an estimated

33,093 tons per year.
Las vegas Wash (Reclamation) - The estimated salt load
reduction from the 3.5 mile Pittman bypass pipeline is 7,000

tons per year.
Another strategy under investigation to further reduce

salinity loading is to use ground water barriers in selected

areas of the wash to develop a ground water detention basin

Water Quality Improvement Program Units (Reclamation-

,
,
i
i

,
,
I
I
I
!
,
;

system.
