Continuing
present management, with only minor modifications, will be considered through incorporation of the
No-Action Alternative in the analysis (see Chapter IV). As identified in Planning Action 1, five broad
topics are being considered in the Forest Plan Revision. Each revision topic is addressed in Chapter III of
this document. Each revision topic includes questions that are vitlll to understanding the scope of the
topics. The revision topics are:

1. Bioloaical Diversity

What type, quantity, and distribution of ecosystems are needed to ensure long-term
productivity, biological diversity, and ecosystem health?

c,

2. Timber Suitability and Manaaement

What areas are suitable for timber harvest? What volume of timber could be provided from
these lands? Is the RGNF's commercial timber program financially efficient? C

3. Wilderness. Unroaded. and Other Special Area Considerations

Which road less areas, if any, should be recommended for wilderness designation? How should
we manage roadless areas not recommended for wilderness designation? Which rivers and
streams are eligible for Wild and Scenic River consideration? What areas should be Rese;;rch
Natural Areas? What areal should become Special Interest Areas and how should they be
managed?

4. Recreation OpDOrtunities and Travel Manaaement

What range, mix, and emphasis of recreation opportunities will provide for a wide variety of
users while ensuring resource protection? What level of travel management is appropriate?

5. Oil and Gas leasina

What lands are suitable for oil and gas leasing and under what conditions should they be
leased?

There are several other items that have been identified that did not meet the criteria for revision topics,
but need to be addressed in the Forest Plan Revision. These items can best be addressed by rewriting and
updating standards and guidelines and monitoring direction in the Forest Plan. These items include:

-- Fire Management
- Heritage Resources
- Land Purchase and Acquisition Including Exchange
- Wilderness Management
- Monitoring
- Soil Standards and Guidelines
.- Soil and Water Improvements
.- Financial Management
-.
