<br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />002571 <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />Cape Fear River (N.C.) <br /> <br />The Department continued cooperation with the Corps of Engineers and the <br />State of North Carolina in a survey of the Cape Fear (including the Haw) <br />River Basin in developing alternate plans for the reduction of floodwater <br />and sediment damages and the utilization of its water and related land re- <br />sources, A joint report, completed and submitted to members of Congress <br />concerned, presented two alternative methods for the development of the water <br />resources of the basin for agricultural, industrial, municipal, recreational <br />and other uses. <br /> <br />Upper Mississippi River and Great Lakes Basin Areas <br /> <br />The Soil Conservation Service is cooperating with various field offices of <br />the Corps of Engineers in the Upper Mississippi River and Great Lakes Basin <br />areas to determine the effect upon agricultural lands and crops of proposed <br />major drainage projects of the Corps of Engineers, <br /> <br />IJp~er Willamette and Deschutes River (Ore~.) <br /> <br />The Department continued cooperating with the Oregon State Water Resources <br />Board in a water resources survey and investigation of these basins to obtain <br />information with a view to the coordinated development of their water re- <br />sources. This survey also will provide information for assisting local <br />organizations in developments under the Watershed Protection and Flood Pre- <br />vention Act, about opportunities for development of water on national forests <br />as a part of multiple-purpose development of the natural forest resources; <br />and as a basis for providing tecJ:mical help to farmers and ranchers. The <br />draft reports on these surveys have been prepared, <br /> <br />Bayou Bartholomew (Ark. and La,) <br /> <br />The Department continued its cooperation with the Corps of Engineers in a sur- <br />vey of this basin, particularly of the hill section. The general objective <br />of the upland survey is to formulate a watershed-treatment program, including <br />systems of floodwater-retarding structures, The Department's report on this <br />survey has been completed, <br /> <br />Humboldt River (Nev.) <br /> <br />The Department is cooperating with the Nevada Department of Conservation and <br />Natural Resources in a comprehensive survey to provide a basis for planning <br />and developing this basin's water and related land resources, A draft report <br />on the survey of the Little Humboldt River Sub-Basin has been prepared, and <br />substantial progress was made on the Pine Valley Sub-Basin.survey, <br /> <br />Arkansas River Multiple-Purpose Proi~ct (Ark. and Okla.) <br /> <br />The Department is cooperating with the Corps of Engineers in a survey to de- <br />velop information on the effects that project works of the authorized Arkan~. <br />sas River Navigation Project may have on lands adjacent to the Arkansas and <br />Verdigris Rivers. <br /> <br />
