Water Year 1992

By December 1992, Blue Mesa Reservoir will bc drawn down 10
at least an elevation of 7495.0 acre-feet in order to minimize icing
problems in the Gunnison Ri.....-er. Blue Mesa wiU continue to be
drawn down through April of 1992 to the level that will
acconunodate the most probable inflow scenario and accomplish
the reJc-ase objectives with a minimum of powerplant b)'p3sses.
Under all but the most adverse. innow scenarios, Blue Mesa is
expected to fill in the summer of 1992. The filling of the reservoir
next year will insure that reasonable specific releases required to
study the protection and improvement of habitat for endangered
fish can be made. The forecasted runoff during the spring of !992
will be constantly monitored to achieve these objectives.

Morrow Point Reservoir releases are expected (0 fluctuate up to
powerplanl capacity during ""-ter year 1992. Cr)"tal Reservoir
will be operated to regulate releases from MotrCl.W Point
Reservoir, (0 meet dO\ll11stream requirements for diversions
through the Gunnison Tunnel, and to protect the blue ribbon
Iroul fishery in the Black Canyon. Releases arc carefully planned
to minimize large monthly changes in flow below the Gunnison
Tunnel Diversion. The forccasled runoffduring the spring of 1992
\\!ill be constantly monitored to achieve this objective.

Assuming most probable inflow conditions, releases from Cr)"tal
Reservoir will range from 1,200 cubic feet per second to the
maximum capacity of 4,200 cubic feet per second.

ACTUAL BLUE MESA STORAGE 1991

THOUSAND ACRE-FEET
'00

....
I7 ""
/ ~
./

.00

700

.00

'00

'00
ONDJFMAMJJAS

PROJECTED CRYSTAL RELEASES 1992

THOUSAND ACRE-FEET
'00

,
...
