South Platte Division, Pick-Sloan
Missouri Basin Program

Dear Mr. Brown:

The Colorado Department of Health has the following canments on the
above-referenced Draft EIS.

1. During the discussion of the Weld County alternative (page IX-24)
mention is made of replacing excavated alluvial deposits and re-
placing them with impervious material. We would be interested
In knowing what type of impervious material will be used for this
fi 11.

2. A map of all water wells should be provided for the Weld County
alternative if the alternative is to be seriously considered.

3. No mention is made in the draft of provisions for sani tary
protection of any water transmission lines that lie within the
floodplain. Central Weld Water District may have 1 ines in the
area which must be protected according to "Potable Water Dis-
tribution Systems" section 8.7.2. a-d.

4. The report does not present an adequate description of the im-
pact on the quantity and quality of groundwater supplies which
are used as public work sources. Many communities and individuals
may be affected by the project through al tered water supplies.

5. The Bureau of Reclamation should be advised that is must comply
with fugitive dust control as specified by Colorado Air Pollution
Control Division Regulation No. I, Section liD.
