Capable Forest Land Implementation of the suitable alternative would result in the timber resource being unavailable for harvest. Those tree stands otherwise brought under management would tend to overmaturity with increased prevelance of insects and disease. Under the suitable with modified boundary alternative, it is likely that some of the more accessible and capable forest portion of the nonwilderness part of the WSA would be harvested. This could amount to a long term sustained yield harvest of up to 2.8 MMBF per year, based on slopes of 45 percent or less. It is unlikely that timber harvest would occur on the remainder of the unsuitable area under present technology because of steep slopes, and/or low volumes. Under the unsuitable alternative, it is also likely that at least the more accessible and capable National Forest portion of the WSA would be harvested. This could amount to a sustained yield of up to 5.8 MMBF per year, based on slopes of 45 percent or less. It is unlikely that timber harvest would occur in the remainder of the area under present technology because of steep slopes. These yields would occur on the San Isabel Forest only because the capable forest lands on the Rio Grande Forest generally exceed 45 percent in slope. 6. Climate Climate would not be directly affected by any alter- native as weather modification projects may be allowed both inside and outside wilderness.
