A copy of his tal k is
attached to this report for your information. Morgan Greenwood,
President of Western Resource Transport, Inc., ~lso addressed the
staffs on the liquid carbon dioxide/coal slurry pipeline.

The decision to use liquid carbon dioxide instead of saline water to
carry coal in the slurry pipeline makes the AQUATRAIN Project name obso-
lete. For the slurry pipeline, the AQUATRAIN name has been replaced by
the name Western Resource Transport Project (WESTRANS). Salinity
control projects, now physically separate from the slurry pipeline pro-
ject, continue to be a part of the joint effort between Western Resource
Transport, Inc., and the Bureau of Reclamation. Hereafter, the slurry
pipeline will be referred to as the WESTRANS Project and the salinity
projects as Sal i ne Water Use and Disposal Projects.

SALINITY CONTROL

November - January Activities

Walt Fite spoke to the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum and
the Forum Work Group on January 9 to update members on project status.
Options were discussed on how funding would be derived from Western
Resource Transport, Inc., to study salinity control projects.

A modification to the Cooperative Agreement has been drafted to define
salinity control responsibilities and the level of funding to be pro-
vided by Western Resource Transport, Inc.

The contractor investigating use of Big Sandy River saline water at Jim
Bridger Powerplant has completed approximately 90 percent of the study.
A draft report is scheduled for completion on February 22, 1985.

Negotiations with Union Oil for studying the use of saline water in oil
shale processing have been suspended until their shale retort becomes
operational.

1
