<br />~ River Basin Survey authority of Public Law 83-566. The <br />c.'? <br />~~ studies evaluate the magnitude of salt loadings, the <br /><=> <br />treatment and management alternatives for salinity control, <br /> <br />and estimated project implementation costs. Working in <br /> <br />cooperation with Reclamation, other Federal agencies, and <br /> <br />concerned state agencies, USDA has completed eight major <br /> <br />studies to date--Grand Valley, Colorado; Uinta Basin, Utah; <br /> <br />Big Sandy, Wyoming; Moapa Valley, Nevada; Virgin Valley, <br /> <br />Nevada and Arizona; and Lower Gunnison, McElmo Creek, and <br /> <br />Mancos Valley, Colorado, <br /> <br />Studies are underway in the <br /> <br />Price-San Rafael Rivers Unit, Utah, and studies are pending <br /> <br />on Palo Verde Irrigation District, <br /> <br />Three other areas have <br /> <br />been investigated: <br /> <br />one was suspended and two had no <br /> <br />recommended plans, <br /> <br />Project Implementation <br /> <br />Present salinity control project implementation activities <br /> <br />are being accomplished with existing USDA authorities and <br /> <br />funding, <br /> <br />The two implementation projects underway are <br /> <br />Grand Valley (initiated in 1979) and Uinta Basin (started <br /> <br />in 1980), <br /> <br />These projects focus primarily upon improvements <br /> <br />of onfarm irrigation systems, related lateral delivery <br /> <br />systems, and irrigation water management practices to <br /> <br />improve irrigation efficiencies and reduce deep <br /> <br />percolation. <br /> <br />23 <br />
