Of special concern in the studies are legsl <br /> <br />and institutional, environmental, and cost-sharing issues. <br /> <br />Reclamation research activities, other than the Etiwanda <br /> <br />Verification program, includes such items as solution <br /> <br />mining with saline water, solar salt gradient ponds, ion <br /> <br />exchange softenine, and use of saline water in aquaculture. <br /> <br />Installation of a saline water cooling system at Etiwanda <br /> <br />Power Plant at Ontario, California, appears to be the most <br /> <br />cost effective way to verify that using saline water <br /> <br />provides salinity control benefits and addresses the <br /> <br />concerns of the industry regarding equipment performance. <br /> <br />A letter of agreement for cost-sharing, equipment desien, <br /> <br />and an operational plan for the verification unit was <br /> <br />completed in FY 1985; installation of the facilities have <br /> <br />also begun, <br /> <br />Bureau of Land Management <br /> <br />Recent BLM salinity control efforts have concentrated on <br /> <br />developing a comprehensive salinity control program for all <br /> <br />public lands in the Colorado River Basin administered by <br /> <br />BLM, continuing land use and activity planning, and <br /> <br />implementing projects, <br /> <br />17 <br />
