<br />...... <br />c') <br />o <br />W <br /> <br />in Colorado, as well as LaVerkin Springs in Utah are point <br /> <br />sources. <br /> <br />During verification studies, three wells in the Meeker Dome <br /> <br />area were successfully plugged, reducing salt loading by <br /> <br />50,000 tons annually. <br /> <br />Studies have been concluded on <br /> <br />LaVerkin Springs and are being concluded on <br /> <br />Glenwood-Dotsero Springs Unit, <br /> <br />Diffuse source control activities would involve watershed <br /> <br />management, land treatment, and the collection and disposal <br /> <br />of irrigation return flows, Utah's Dirty Devil River and <br /> <br />Price-San Rafael Rivers Units and Wyoming's Big Sandy River <br /> <br />and the Lower Virgin River Unit in Nevada are identified <br /> <br />diffuse sources currently under study. <br /> <br />Saline Water Use and Disposal Opportunities <br /> <br />A September 1981 Special Report suggested opportunities for <br /> <br />collecting saline waters in the Colorado River Basin for <br /> <br />use in the energy industry. The concepts developed are <br /> <br />alternatives to conventional, structural control methods <br /> <br />involving lined evaporation ponds and/or desalination <br /> <br />plants, <br /> <br />About 610,000 acre-feet of saline water per year could be <br /> <br />collected for disposal or for use in energy development <br /> <br />for cooling coal-fired powerplants and for industrial <br />16 <br />
