1

\

Progress on SB-74 Documentation/Coordination of Resource Data bv Hvdrosphere. Inc.:

tI

Hydrosphere is currently completing work on the water supply infrastructure
inventory, groundwater recharge, conjunctive use, and opportunity assessment portions of
the study. They are also commencing work on a basin-wide computer illustration tool
showing impacts of various water supply, population growth, infrastructure, and water
use scenarios. Their schedule for completion of all project tasks is early August.

Progress on the State Engineer's Office Denver Basin Groundwater Model:

The State Engineer's Office has completed the conversion -of the steady-state
groundwater model to the transient model. The hydraulic head predicted by the steady-
state model becomes the starting head conditions for the transient model. The transient
model requires additional input including storage factors, hydraulic conductivity and the
elevations of each groundwater layer. The transient model successfully simulated a 700
year period without any pumping which shows the model is stable. The final water levels
from the 700 year simulation are used as the starting levels for transient runs using
historical pumping stresses. The transient model runs are currently being completed and
analyzed by the SEO.

.

Peer Review GrouP Meetings Held:

The Technical Peer Review Group and the General Peer Review held their third
meetings June 23, 1997. HRS, Inc., Hydrosphere, Inc., and the State Engineer's Office
presented task information completed to date followed by a review by both groups. The
Preliminary Draft Report was also submitted to both groups for their review. Written
review comments will be submitted by each group for inclusion in the final S8 96-74
report. The final meeting of the two peer review groups is scheduled for late August after
submittal of the Draft Final Report.

Final Studv Schedule

Completion of the Draft Final Report is scheduled for August.

Submittal of the Final Report to the Special Water Committee is scheduled for
September.

.
