Western Fuels will have two offices,
cine c/o Ken Holum and Associates at 1019-l9th street NW, Washington,
D.C., 20036, and one in Cheyenne, not yet opened.
They are two of five consumer-owned utilities involved in the Mis.
souri Basin Power Project which plans to build three 500,000 kilowatt
coal-fired generating plants in the Wheatland':'Torrington area of eouth-
eastern Wyoming, with the first plant due to g.o on the line in 1979.
Cost of the project is estimated at $700 million. Western Fuels will
help procure low-sulfur Western coal for small municipally-owned power

utilities and rural electric cooperatives, by pooling fuel requirements

in bidding for fuel supplies, by acquiring an interest in mineral rights

and coal lands and other basic energy sources, according to Holum. The
non-profit firm
Wyoming-incorporated/may operate on its own or in partnership with oth-

er entities, Holum stated. This is an effort by rural electric cooper-

atives and other small publicly-owned systems to assure themselves a

steady and adequate supply of fuels to meet their rapidly-growing needs.
HeM
Note to WRW Clients: I plan to go home to Leadville, Colo., in
September and to visit elsewhere in Colorado and the West. Marvin
Franklin wants me to be sure to see the Navajo timber operation. Edward
Johnson wants me to be sure to see the new and old coal operations in
the Billings area. I'd like to see the big timber operations in the
pacific Northwest. I'm game for anything for about three weeks but re-'
meIl'.ber I don't drive-have even turned in my driving license. If you
want me to see anything in your neck of the woods, now is the time to
let me know. Thank you. HCM -30-HCM--30-
