The most senior <br />of these is the Call1e,o Demand which, conlSists of a nulllber of senior <br />rights; for the Grand. Valley, Canal. a'nd the Grand Valley Irrigation <br />Proje,ct.The Grand Valley Irrigat:totlprojact includes the <br />Government HighlineCanal and the. Orohard Mesa, Canal rights which <br />divert at the Grand! Valley Diversion Dam. with . operation of a <br />"check" which allows the tailwater from the Orchard, Mesa power <br />plant to bl3 used by thl3 Grand Valll3Y Canal, the Grand Valley demand <br />ml3asured. at the Cameo gage is ~pproximatelY 1,650 cubic feet per <br />seoond (cfs) during the summer. <br /> <br />The Shosnone Demand has a priority d!ate of .1902 and a decreed <br />diversion rate of 1250 cfs. It supplies the Shoshone hydroelectric <br />plant i.n Glenwood Canyon and is a year round non-consumptive use. <br />The plant also has a junior right .for 158 ofs with a priority date <br />of 1929. In most years, when the Shoshone Demand (1902 right) is <br />satisfied, thl3reis sufficient, water to meet the summer Cameo <br />Demand sinoe the Colorado River flow ,is supplemented by tributary <br />inflow downstream of the Sho$hone Power Plant, largely from the <br />Roaring Fork Rivl3r. <br /> <br />Many junior diversions in the Upper Colorado R:tver.basin havabeen <br />protectl3d from the Shoshone or Cameo callIS. bythl3 replaCement <br />function of several reservoirs. For example, the major function of. <br />the Williams Fork Reservoi,r is to allow for out~of-priority <br />diversions by the Denver systero:s, and the function of Ruedi <br />Reservoir is partly to protect diversions by the:Fryingpan-Arkansas <br />Project.
