<br /> <br /> b. <br />1M <br />~ <br />~ <br />~ <br /> c. <br /> d. <br /> e. <br /> f. <br /> <br />Have made at least three river trips through the Grand Canyon on <br />the Colorado River as a trainee or apprentice under a qualified <br />guide, and run every rapid on the river at least twice in the type of <br />craft to be operated on the trip. In changing from one type of <br />craft to another, the boatman must make at least two additional <br />trips as a trainee. Any exceptions to this must be approved by the <br />Superintendent, Grand Canyon National Park (Superintendent). <br /> <br /> <br />Be able to 'read' the river and operate a boat accordingly. <br /> <br />8e able to operate the emergency communications equipment <br />carried by the outfitter and know the evacuation procedureS, <br /> <br />Have a knowledge of state, U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and NPS <br />regulations applicable to boats carrying passengers ,for hire. <br /> <br />Have a knowledge of Grand Canyon n;ltural and human history and <br />the points of interest encountered, and the ability and willingness <br />-to impart this knowledge to passengers. <br /> <br />g. Have a working knowledge of safety sanitation, and equipment <br />repair for the specific craft operated. <br /> <br />h. Have a first aid certificate equivalent to the American Red Cross <br />Standard First Aid C,ourse. <br /> <br />, 2. Trip Leader: A 'person whose character, personality, and capabilities <br />qualify him as a responsible leader shall be in charge of each river <br />party. In addition to meeting the guide qualifications, the trip leader <br />must: <br /> <br />a. Have ,made at leasJ six trips through the Grand Canyon of the <br />Colorado River, alIas a guide running the entire trip in the type of <br />craft to be operated as a leader. <br /> <br />,b. Hold a current first-aid certificate, indicating the holder has <br />satisfactorily completed the equivalent of an American Red Cross <br />Advanced First Aid course (52 hours) or an equivalent emergency <br />medical technician course. <br /> <br />c. Be knowledgeable and capable of giving a suitable orientation talk <br />to all passengers throughout the trip. This required orientation will <br />Cover life preservers, boating safety, swimming, hiking safety, <br />drinking water, sanitation, and cultural and natural history of the <br />G,and Canyon. <br /> <br />3. Training Trips: Trips may be conducted for the purp,ose of training new <br />boatmen or familiarizing boatmen with new types of equipment, inter- <br />pretive methods, or operational requirements. These trips must be <br />requested by the outfitter at least two weeks prior to the trip and must <br />be approved by the Superintendent. The outfitter or a designated <br />representa,tive must accompany the trip. A list of participants, and <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />.- <br />
