123~.

Ruedi Reservoir

Reservoir Inflow

Inflow to Ruedi Reservoir is o::msidered to be the flow of the Fryingpan
River at Ruedi, Colorado. Records are available at this station for
Cctober 1959 through Septanber 1964. For water :fears 19~5 through May.
1968, discharge at the gaging station on the Frymgpan River near ~,
Colorado, is oorrected for Rocky Fork Creek flow and used as the Frymgpan
River flow at Ruedi, Colorado. Rocky Fork Creek flow was estimated fran
spot Ireasurements. After May 1968, when storage began in Ruedi Peservoir,
the actual inflow was canputed by rreasuring the outflow and the change
in storage. Upstream transm:l\IDtain diversions '.>'ere added back to the
reservoir inflow to give the lU1depleted inflow to Ruedi Peservoir.

A probability curve for the reservoir I s lU1depleted inflow was COIlqJuted
by the log Pearson rreth:xi and is shl:::Mn graphically on Exhibit 1. Annual
inflow of a magnitude that is equaled or exceeded 50 percent of the tiIre
was considered the rrost probable inflow, that with a 90 percent chance
of being equaled or exceeded was oonsidered to be the reasonable minimum,
and that with only a 10 percent chance of being equaled or exceeded was
oonsidered the reasonable maxinn.ml. 'lhe October through March inflow was
the average 1960 through 1974 inflow for this period. After October
through March inflow was subtracted, the remainder was distributed arrong
the rronths of April through September according to the distribution of
the rrean undepleted inflow. Fran the undepleted inflow, the correspond-
ing tranSllOuntain diversioos '.>'ere subtracted. 'I11e tranSllOuntain diversions
were the IIOSt probable, the reasonable mini.nnJn, and the reasonable
maximum values for Busk-Ivanhoe and Olarles H. Boustead 'funnel diversions .
as detennined by probability studies, Exhibit 2. Storable inflow was
oonsidered to be the resulting depleted inflow less bypass for the
protection of recreational values, including fishing on the Fryingpan
River below Ruedi Peservoir.

.

,
. I

Minimum Reservoir Pelease

The bypass, not to exceed the stream3inflow, is 39 ft3/s for the rronths
of t-bvember through April and 110 ft /5 for May through October.

Reservoir Operation

The release fran Ruedi Peservoir will be I\'a.intained at 110 ft3/s to draw
the reservoir down to 87,000 acre-feet by January 1, 1979. Based upon
the type of runoff season indicated by the January 1 snow pack data the
out~low fram the re~ir will be adjusted according. 'Ib provide' .
maxunum flood protechon below the dam, the reservoir will be drawn down
by ~rch 31 to a point where refilling ~uld be assured during the
sprmg runoff. Estimates of probable inflow will be I\'a.de following the
February 1 and March 1 snow forecasts1 the drawdaNn will be adjusted
acoordingly.

.

10
