OD1!'?'7 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Drainaae Areas <br /> <br />To analyze irrigation depletions in detail, the Upper Colorado River Basin was <br />broken down into 12 major drainage areas, Each area was defined by a stream <br />gage location and subdivided, based on irri9ation characteristics and <br />available data. <br /> <br />The Gunnison River Drainage Area was defined by USGS gage, Gunnison River Near <br />Grand Junction, Colorado (09152500). The subdivided areas are as follows: <br /> <br />Upper Gunnison, above Gunnison County line <br />North Fork and Smith Fork <br />Lower Gunnison and intervening areas <br />Upper Uncompahgre--Ouray County <br />Lower Uncompahgre, below Ouray County line <br /> <br />Irriaated Acreaoe <br /> <br />Estimates of irrigated acreage from several sources were considered. These <br />include: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Reports by the various State Engineer's Offices <br />U.S. Bureau of Census, Census of Agriculture <br />State Agricultural Statistics <br />Colorado Needs Inventory <br />Reports by the Colorado Water Conservation Board <br />Enaineerina Advisorv Commission's Reoort. 1948 <br />UDDer Colorado Reoion Comprehensive Framework Study, 1971 <br />Colorado Riyer Storage Project's estimates, 1948 <br />Surplus Waters of the Colorado River SYstem, by Jacobs-Stevens. 1948 <br />Colorado River Comprehensive DeveloDment. by USBR. 1946 <br /> <br />In comparing estimates from the reports, inconsistencies were apparent. <br />Primary consideration was given to the U.S. Bureau of Census data; Enaineerina <br />Advisory Commission's Report, 1948; and the Upoer Colorado Reaion <br />ComDrehensive Framework Studv. 1971. <br /> <br />The cropping patterns throughout the Gunnison River Drainage Area, as they <br />exist in the 1906-1974 CRSS data base, are summarized in Table 1. <br /> <br />. <br />
