Month of November 1950

Rio Grande Division

Messrs. Lane, Carlson and Carter of the Chief Engineer's
Office visited the project to inspect test sections being used in the
stable channel study. Samples of bed material and material in which
canals have been constructed will be collected and sent to Denver for
further study.

A meeting was held in Denver, Colorado, with representatives
of the Colorado Water Conservation Board; Chief, Division of ~drology;
Asst. Regional ~drologist and hydrologists from the project office
to review progress in hydrologiC studies made by the project. New,
more rigid criteria were recommended for future power studies. A
re-run of the power studies will be made using the new criteria after
1lIhich they will be reviewed for any further changes in criteria.

Messrs. Puls and Walker of the Chief Engineer's office;
Cervin of the Regional Office; and project personnel made a field
inspection of power plant and dam sites on the Rio Grande above Del
Norte, Colorado. Comment s, suggestions, and recommendations of the
visitors will be valuable in future work on this division.

Inking and planimetering of land classification maps was
continued during the month. Some field checking of maps was also
done with few corrections being required. Preliminary tabulation of
the results of the land classification is expected to be completed
during January 1951.

Closed Basin Division

Observation of ground water fluctuations and tabulation of
data collected were continued during the month by Geological Survey
personnel.

Conejos Division - Platoro Unit

Good progress was made by all contractors on construction
of Platoro Dam, clearing the reservoir and construction of the gate-
tender's house. Construction of the gate-tender's house was completed
by the first of the month.
