Blythe, California area; <br />~ Clbola Division, from Taylor <br />Ferry to Adobe Ruins, includes <br />the Cibola National Wildlife <br />'Refuge; <br />~" Imperial Division, from Adobe <br />Ruins to Imperial Dam, includes <br />Picacho State Recreation Area <br />, and Imperial National Wildlife <br />Refuge; <br />~ Laguna Division, from Imperial <br />Dam to Laguna Dam, includes the <br />Laguna Settling Basin; <br />~ Yuma Division, from Laguna Dam <br />to the spot where the rh.:er cros- <br />ses the border between California <br />and Mexico, includes the Quechan <br />Indian Reservation and the Yuma, <br />Arizona area; <br />~ Umltrophe Division, from the <br />border between California and <br />Mexico to the border between <br />Arizona and Mexico at San Luis, <br />Arizona, includes Morelos Dam <br />and the Cocopah Indian Reserva- <br />tion, <br /> <br />Limitrophe Division <br /> <br />While flowing past the northwestern <br />edge of Yuma, the Colorado River <br />passes the Northerly International <br />Boundary where the river meets the <br />~order between California and <br />Mexico, <br /> <br />The river then flows south for <br />another 20 m"i1es where it passes the <br />Southerly International Boundary" <br />located at San Luis, Arizona, and San <br />Luis, Sonora, Mexico, where the <br />river meets the border between <br />Arizona and Mexico, At the Souther- <br /> <br />Iy International Boundary, the river <br />enters exclusively into Mexico <br />where responsibility for the river <br />ends for the U,S"Bureau of Reclama- <br />tion and becomes the entire"respon- <br />sibility 01 the Mexican government. <br /> <br />The section of the Colorado River be- <br />tween the Northerly International <br />Boundary and the Southerly Interna- <br />tional boundary is called,the <br />Umltrophe Division C"limitrophe" . <br />meaning situated on a border), <br /> <br />In the Limitrophe Division the east <br />side of the river lies in the U.S, and <br />is the responsibility of the U,S, <br />g~lVernment, while the west side of <br />the river lies in Mexico and is the <br />responsibility of the Mexican govern- <br />ment. <br /> <br />The Limitrophe Division is a politi- <br />cally sensitive section of the river <br />since work done to one side of the <br />river could affect the other side of <br />the river, The United States and <br />Mexican governments are involved <br />in operating the river and have es- <br />tablished the International Bound- <br />ary and Water Commission to coor- <br />dinate intergovernmental alfairs <br />along the border and to coordinate <br />operation and maintenance ac- <br />tivities in the Umitrophe Division, <br /> <br /> <br />u.s.
