Fact Sheet #2

"Today the U.S, Bureau of
Reclamation's Yuma Projects Office
is the custodian of the Colorado
River along the river's last 275 miles
in the U.s" from Davis Dam at laugh-
Sonora, Mexico,

Reclamation serves only as the cus-
,todlan of Colorado River water, not
" as the owner of the water; almost all
the seven basin states: Colorado,
Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, '
Arizona, Nevada, and California, ,

Under the 1944 treaty between
Mexico and the United States,
Mexico is allotied 11/2 million acre~
Ieet of Colorado River water per
year. (An acre-foot I;' the amount of
water that would cover one acre at a
depth of one loot; 325,851 gallons; a
typical family of five uses aboul one
acre-foot a year.)
