<br />I am writing in response to your letter of Ma,ch 27, 1979, regarding
<br />the White River Dam and the proposed use the t~ibe has of its allo-
<br />cation of water,
<br />
<br />The tribe, at the present time, is planning to use this water for
<br />agricultural purposes, The triQe~oes, however, reserve the right
<br />to change its use of this wate!:, should events in the future determine
<br />that more beneficial use can be made by utilizing this allocation in
<br />another way, Since the dam will be approximately 12-14 miles f,om
<br />the reservation prope~, it seems the diversion would be the main
<br />environmental impact as far as the tribe would be concerned, and that
<br />tribal use of water would not be a consideration in regard to impact
<br />in construction of the dam.

<br />The tribe i,& i.n favor of this dam being built, There doesn't seem to
<br />be a great impact on the environment caused by this construction in
<br />comparison to benefits received; i,e" flood control, power source,
<br />better utilization of available water and possible recreational uses,
<br />
